CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Securities and Investments course scope and sequence within the Finance Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Actuary program of study within the Finance Career Cluster® provides helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. This document is designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

This lesson introduces students to the importance of saving and investing. Students will identify the differences between saving and investing, explore the concept of compounding to increase investment returns, and identify components of SMART goals as related to setting financial goals.

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the concepts of risk and investments. They will understand the risk involved when investors are trying to make their money work for them. Tolerance for risk is reviewed and what students can do to protect themselves from risk in the future.

This lesson introduces students to various methods used in analyzing investments. Students will learn about Capital Asset Pricing Model, Modern Portfolio Theory, Arbitrage Pricing Theory, and compare and contrast the various investment selection strategies.
