Virtual Business

CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Virtual Business course scope and sequence within the Business Management and Administration Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Business Manager program of study within the Business Management and Administration Career Cluster® provides helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. This document is designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

In this lesson, students will learn about setting up a virtual business. Students will design floor plans for their businesses, create a newsletter about virtual assistants, and create a Gantt scheduling chart.

In this lesson, the student will investigate the external and internal risks to virtual businesses, and identify the many revenue streams for virtual businesses.

In this lesson, students will learn the steps required to set up an e-commerce business, research details pertaining to setting up a virtual business office, and evaluate and rate business websites.

This lesson will show how to research pricing and billing practices for a virtual business and then appropriately set fees.

This lesson will teach students the fundamentals of accounting needed to make the necessary financial decisions for running a successful virtual business.

In this lesson students will learn about bookkeeping skills necessary for a virtual business office. Students will consider how business activities affect accounting equation, complete accounting equations and a chart of accounts.

In this lesson, students will be introduced to creating an online presence. The lesson focuses on the aspects of business that needs to be considered before taking it online.

This lesson is an introduction to designing appealing websites for businesses. Focus is placed upon choosing the correct domain name, design style, and common mistakes made.
