Practicum in Health Science

CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Practicum in Health Science course scope and sequence within the Health Science Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Program of Studies within the Health Science Career Cluster provide helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. These documents are designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

In this lesson, the student will explore and analyze emerging technologies in health science and understand the need for continuing education advancement and training to stay up-to-date with new discoveries and technology in medicine.

In this lesson, students will discuss barriers to communication, and methods to help overcome these barriers. Students will work in pairs to practice communicating with patients.

This lesson, provides students the opportunity to reinforce, apply, and transfer their knowledge and skills related to mathematics in a variety of contexts.

In this lesson, students will research healthcare concerns of our global society. Students will also complete a project on the effects of aging on the body.

In this lesson, the student will be able to explore these entrepreneurial opportunities by completing a project in which they will organize and create a business.

In this lesson, students will explore the emerging technologies of the health care industry, and how these technologies have and will continue to impact the profession.

In this lesson, students will explore requirements for various careers and determine the education and/or training that is needed for those careers.
